Welcome to the Progress Village Middle Magnet School PTSA where we put the “fun” in “fundraising” (and sometimes “funds” in fun… because things cost money, y’all). No, it’s not a secret society (though we do occasionally gather around a pile of raffle baskets and chant “more glitter”). This is your hilariously helpful guide to all the burning questions no one asks out loud, but definitely thinks.

1. Wait—what even is the PTSA?

It stands for Parent Teacher Student Association, aka the crew of caffeine-fueled (except for that one non-coffee, naturally crazy board lady), slightly sleep-deprived humans, but really it's just a bunch of passionate grownups (and students!) who love this school and want to make it better. We plan events, raise money, support teachers, feed people, handle all the strategic chaos, and sometimes wear matching shirts in public. If you’ve ever wondered, “Who’s running this thing?” It’s us. We’re the thing.

2. If I join the PTSA, am I signing my soul away to volunteer at every event forever?

Absolutely not. Unless you’re into that. Then yes. 😆 But seriously—joining is like liking a post on Facebook. Joining just means you support what we do. Volunteering is totally optional—no surprise assignments, blood oaths, or public speaking required (unless you’re into that, again… weirdly specific, but okay). We always need extra hands, especially if you’re good at lifting, organizing, baking, or smiling awkwardly at strangers.

3. How much is membership and do I get a secret handshake?

Membership is $11, that’s one fancy coffee or approximately 1.3 gallons of gas, and while we’re still working on the secret handshake, you do get:

✔️ One ring to rule them all or we guess it's more aptly called "voting rights"

✔️ The warm glow of being a school-supporting legend

4. Where does my $11 go? Is this a front for a donut smuggling ring?

We wish. Not to a yacht fund either (yet). But your money helps us:

🎨 Fund student events and arts activities

🍎 Support teachers with classroom goodies

🎁 Host staff appreciation surprises

🎉 Put on fun, funky school-wide events that make school a little less "meh"

and many more school needed things!

We stretch every dollar like it's elastic. We know it's not a yacht or donuts, but hey, we do what we can.

5. How do I volunteer without instantly becoming Chair of Everything or being lured into a never-ending group text?

We have a strict “no ambush leadership” policy. We have opportunities ranging from “takes 5 minutes and no human contact” to “you will sweat and be thanked with cookies.” We respect your boundaries. We fear the group chat too. Whether you’ve got 10 minutes or 10 hours, we’ll find a way for you to help that fits your time, talents, and snack preferences. We love all kinds of helpers—especially the “behind-the-scenes, no public speaking please” types.

6. When are the PTSA meetings and can I bring snacks?

We meet three times a year (dates to be announced on the site and socials). You can show up in person, on Zoom, or in spirit (we accept psychic vibes). If you're busy, no hard feelings. We’re like your chill friend who invites you to stuff but totally gets it when you ghost. Snacks are always welcome. So is comfy attire. Pajamas? Bold choice. We support it.

7. Can my student join the PTSA or is this a grown-up only club?

Absolutely! The S in PTSA is for Students. We love having their input, energy, and the occasional brutal honesty. They usually have better ideas, and they’re not afraid to tell us when something is cringe. 💀 It's also great for leadership skills and future resume flexing...that is assuming we all survive their above stated honesty during these pre-teen and early teen stages.

8. Do I have to show up to every event or meeting to be “in” -or- what if I only want to help once and then vanish into the mist?

Perfect. You’re our type. This isn’t a cult—it’s middle school. You can support us silently, show up when you can, or pop in once and vanish like a mystery hero. One-hour volunteers? Love it. One-time donation? Yes. Emotional support email? We'll take it. It all helps.

9. How do I stay in the loop without being added to a million group chats or stalking you?

Easy! Follow us on Facebook and Instagram, check the website, or join our email list by becoming a PTSA member (aka a member perk...again, no it's NOT A DONUT! What is your obsession with donuts? 👀 Occasionally we do offer snacks at the events🤷). No pigeons or smoke signals needed. We’ll send you updates that are fun, informative, and only slightly chaotic. We promise: zero spam, some emojis, and the occasional all-caps excitement.

10. What if I have a great idea, or a strong opinion, or an uncontrollable urge to help?

WE WANT IT. SAY IT. We love wild ideas, helpful tips, and your spicy opinions. Slide into our inbox, DM us, or just whisper it toward the main office and hope the wind carries it to us. Seriously.
